We've completed some preliminary work on Cloud Energy use but now want to extend our research. We've made an open offer on our blogspot http://carbon3it.blogspot.com/2011/10/is-cloud-green.html
for companies that are considering moving services into the cloud to get their current IT estate measured for energy use and carbon emissions.
We'll then assist in getting the cloud services measured for comparison

We are pleased to report that Greentrac, our PC power monitoring tool has been installed at the University of Warwick, approximately 200 users are now monitoring their own energy use
and we've been advised that almost nobody turned their PC's off during Christmas 2010, whilst over Christmas 2011, almost everbybody did! We have yet to look at the specific cost savings
but we estimate that just during a 10 day break the Univeristy saved approximately £300 We also have Greentrac on trial at a Northampton school, we hope to report on this soon. We have a number of trials available for Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software, this product is in beta at the present time and we are looking for a number of first adopters,
who will get the software and survey completed free of upfront charges, savings identified to be shared from your next electricity bill.
The ROI on this product can be as little as 4 months
DCIM provides real time information on your data centre operation, it is the link between facilities information (cooling etc) and the IT, allowing accurate energy saving management,
to be applied, DCIM will be installed in all data centres in the future, be one of the first!

John has been nominated for a SWM Green Leaders Award, results will be announced on the 5th October.
John hopes that the nomination will kick start the use of technology throughout the West Midlands to reduce Carbon especially in the ICT Sectors. Carbon3IT Ltd (John Booth) spoke at the BCS Birmingham branch on the topic of Green IT.
The event was well received even though the branch had a talk in March, members said that a lot more information and practical information they can use was given. Carbon3IT Ltd were invited to participate in the Amsterdam Duurzaam event, this is similar to Sustainability Live but on a much smaller scale
We attended the event with our compute technology partner Very PC Ltd.
There was a lot of interest in the Broadleaf PC demonstrated at the event, the Broadleaf is one of the worlds most efficient PC's, packing a real punch with the latest technology
but fully carbon offset as well as 66% more efficient than its competitors. Carbon Trust and Salix funding is available for selected customers - call for details.2012
